Clutter-Free (Brain)

Introduction

You can become overwhelmed with clutter and untidiness.

Thus the need to de-clutter and develop regular tidy routines or habits, which will have a positive impact on the brain.

Some ways to become clutter free:

1. Deep clean (this involves getting rid of things you don't need, putting everything in its place, focus on 'hard to reach' places to remove the dirt and grime, etc)

2. Organise your clothes daily (instead of
"...chucking dirty laundry on your bedroom floor, toss it right into the hamper. Put clean items in their proper places as soon as you take a them off, whether hanging them back up in the closet or returning them, neatly folded, to a drawer...."
Julieta Aqiono as quoted by Christina Sturdivant Sani, 2023

3. Donations (have a bag where items are placed that you want to donate to charity; take that this bag to the donation centre monthly)

4. Choose one spot as a clutter free zone (this can be a kitchen counter, a dining room table, bathroom vanity, ie
"...The idea is, when we create one clutter-free zone, it can calm our brain..."
Amelia Pleasant Kennedy as quoted by Christina Sturdivant Sani, 2023

In this clutter free zone, place something beautiful, such as the small vase of flowers.)

5. Daily planning (plan your day the night before; this can include laying out tomorrow's clothes in advance, having the breakfast cooking utensils ready, children's lunches prepared, etc; this means having to make fewer decisions when you wake up; making your bed, etc)

6. Declutter your night stand or bedside table (this area
"...can easily become a drop zone for random items like books, hair ties and half-empty water glasses. This visual clutter can raise your stress levels at work against that calming, relaxing, peaceful vibe that we're all going for. Take things that don't belong on your nightstand and return them to where they belong..."

Amelia Pleasant Kennedy as quoted by Christina Sturdivant Sani, 2023)

7. Daily dusting (so that dust is not built up on surfaces and furniture, dust daily)

8. Don't put things off (do things when they are required to be done, otherwise there can be an unnecessary accumulation)

9. Sort the ever-growing pile of paperwork on your desk (schedule a regular time to sort through your paperwork, etc )

10. Junk mail (regularly delete from your computer and have a rubbish bin near your mailbox for disposing of hard copy junk mail)
