An Example of Competitive Advantage
Doing Good
Doing good can give an organization a competitive advantage. For example, donating profits to charity. Some examples include:
- Newman's Own (an American food company founded in 1982 by actor Paul Newman and author AE Hotchner; it has donated more than $US 600 million to charities working for disadvantaged children)
- Patagonia (an American Outdoor Clothing Company founded in 1973 and now worth around $US 3 billion; its profits are used to protect the environment and fight climate change)
- Humanitix (an online ticketing agent starting in 2016 by Adam McCurdie and Joshua Ross as a basis to help children in extreme poverty; it has become
“...the fastest growing ticketing platform in Australia and New Zealand and is now establishing itself in the United States…
Peter Singer, 2024)
“...Companies that donate their profits to good causes grow faster, live longer, and are more profitable…”
Vincent van der Holst as quoted by Peter Singer, 2024
