Some Conditions to Establishing Creative Organisations

There are 9 conditions to establishing a creative organisations:

i. value creation - this is created by exploiting known knowledge in the organisationsthrough relationships ; novelty and innovation emerged through exploration that is facilitated through relationships and networks of relationships across boundaries

ii. ignition and leadership - co-operation is ignited by a compelling vision, the status of a question, all the excitement of a complex and meaningful task; leadership is required to start the ignition

iii. emergence - creativity emerges; they cannot be ordered or directed; they will choose freely to give their human capital (intellectual, emotional or social)

iv. rhythm and timelessness - creativity is marked by periods of intense activity that fuels and organisation's productive capacity; it is important to have periods of reflection and timelessness between the periods of intense activity

v. relationships - creativity occurs between people; relationships are paramount and need to be supported and developed

vi. boundary spanners - need to bring people with different insights into the group; boundaryless is needed to encourage relationships across boundaries because value is produced by both exploitation of the current knowledge of people with the novel combinations of this knowledge and new knowledge; boundaryless encourages across organisational links for social advance and a culture of volunteerism

vii. signature processes - need to move beyond best practices to signature processes (those that cannot be copied by another organisations); create an environment in which boundaryless co-operation can occur

viii. commitments - creativity occurs at the nexus of a network of commitments that establish what actions will be taken and invited; there is a need for participants to make antique commitments public, voluntary and explicit

ix. purposeful conversations - conversations are a source of creativity; use insightful data, an emphasis on values and space for reflection to support and shape conversations
