Power Stress As Part Of Leadership
Need to be careful of power stress, ie comes with the demand of increased responsibility over others and it can be a result of self-determined pressure to positively influence others; power stress can cause the loss of ability to adapt, learn and stay healthy, thus losing your effectiveness; to handle this you need to learn to work with compassion; there are 3 components of this:
i) noticing others' needs or desires
ii) having empathic concerns
iii) supporting others' desire to grow or develop
Compassion can act like an anti-dote to stressand pressureas it stimulates positive emotional attractor (PEA), ie
"...a state of positive emotional arousal and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows down the heart rate and triggers the release of hormones such as oxytocin and vasopressin......are conducive to cognitive openness, improve cognitive performance, and openness to behavioural change......could experience greater physical wellness, calmer and more elated state, and neurogenesis (the generation of new neural tissue)......be a self-reinforcing, self-perpetuating cycle, as positive emotions lead to positive cognitive bias, creating feedback loops..."
