Some Guidelines for a Successful Life (12)

1. Accept who you are (be authentic and don't try to be somebody else; accept who you are)

2. Understand yourself and others

"...strive for clarity of self-awareness; strive to fully understand and have an objective perception of your own self, your thoughts and feelings. Negative experiences are opportunities to heal the wounds that you carry. Support others, and by doing so support yourself. When you are unable support others it is a sign that you are not adequately attending to your own needs..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

"...Aspire to be wise - wisdom is the ultimate path of your life, and it knows no limits other than those you impose upon yourself..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

3. Life is a constant learning experience (daily opportunities arise for you to learn more about yourself and others)

4. There are no mistakes, no failures, etc (they are learning experiences)

"...Your development towards wisdom is the process of experimentation, trial and error, so it's inevitable things will not always go to plan or turn out how you'd want..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

5. Learn from lessons (what manifests as problems, challenges, irritations, frustrations, etc are lessons; they repeat themselves until you learn from them and change

"...your own awareness and your ability to change are pre-requisites......also fundamental is the acceptance that you are not a victim of fate or circumstances - causality needs to be acknowledged;...... things happen to you because of who you are and what you do. To blame anyone or anything else for your misfortunes is an escape and a denial; you yourself are responsible for you, and what happens to you..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

(As change takes time, patience is required)

6. Focus on compassion, forgiveness, integrity, humility, tolerance and humour (compassion is the remedy for harsh judgement; forgiveness is an act of raising an emotional debt; integrity means behaving ethically; humility refers to being modest and unpretentious; be tolerant, ie accept others as they are; humour refers to the ability to laugh at yourself and your own mishaps)

7. Surrender to the rhythm of life (learning is continuous)

"...commit to the process of constant learning and change - be humble enough to acknowledge your own weaknesses, and be flexible enough to adapt to what you may be facing because rigidity will deny you the freedom of new possibilities..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

8. Live in the present (be grateful and enjoy what you have and where you are; there is no key to endless happiness)

"...Appreciate the abundance of what's good in your life, rather than measure and amass things that do not actually lead to happiness. Living in the present helps you attain peace..."

Wayne Mansfield, 2021a

9. Take responsibility for yourself (what you make of life is up to you; use all the tools and resources you need; learn to let go when you cannot change things; keep anger under control; be courageous to do what is right)

10. Trust your instincts and intuition (these are based on your experience and expertise; listen to them constructively; be careful of doubters, cynics, sceptics, doomsayers, etc)

11. Don't live in the past (learn from the past but do not live in it as you cannot change it; focus on the here and now, ie the present)

12. Have an adventurous spirit (involves a life of fun, gratitude and excitement)

"...see life as a series of adventures. Each adventure is a chance to have fun, learn something, explore the world, expand your circle of experience and friends, and broaden your horizons..."
